How much is earlobe repair? If you’re looking to close a stretched opening or fix a tear, this is likely one of the first questions on your list. While earlobe repair is considered minor surgery, its effects can be significant, so it’s worth considering whether it fits into your budget.

In this blog post, we’re answering a few common questions about the cost of earlobe repair surgery, OHIP coverage, and more. Read on for all the details.

What Is Earlobe Repair & How Is It Done?

Earlobe repair is a minor surgical procedure to correct stretches or tears caused by heavy earrings, ear gauges, or earring-related injuries.

Our surgeons start by numbing the area with a local anesthetic, so you will be awake but fully comfortable during the process. They surgically remove the skin inside the opening before stitching the hole or tear closed. This allows the tissues to fuse together as they heal, creating a long-lasting correction.

How Much Does Earlobe Repair Cost?

At our Toronto clinic, the cost of earlobe repair starts at $550 per earlobe and varies depending on the complexity of the procedure. Simple stretched holes are typically fairly simple and fall on the lower end of the price range, whereas tears with more extensive trauma may require a bit more correction and cost a bit more. We always provide you with a specific price for your procedure before moving forward.

Does OHIP Cover Earlobe Repair?

The Ministry of Health considers earlobe repair an unessential service, so it does not qualify for OHIP coverage. The same is true for removing other benign conditions such as sebaceous cysts, which you can learn more about in this blog post. Only the Ministry of Health can make this determination, and The Centre for Minor Surgery cannot influence whether your surgery is covered.

Do I Need a Referral for Earlobe Repair?

No, you do not need a referral to The Centre for Minor Surgery for earlobe repair or any other minor surgery we perform. We’re happy to help with your repair whenever you’re ready and can often perform the surgery on the same day as your consultation.

Can I Get My Ears Pierced Again After an Earlobe Repair?

Once your earlobes have healed completely, you can get a new piercing done next to the previously pierced area. Unfortunately, we cannot leave any openings in place during the surgery. Attempting to leave a pinpoint opening usually causes healing issues and is rarely successful. However, you will likely have no issues getting a new piercing.

Will I Have a Scar After Earlobe Repair?

Any surgical procedure is likely to leave a scar. However, our surgeons prioritize leaving behind as little scarring or cosmetic changes to the earlobe as possible.

How Long Does Earlobe Repair Take To Heal?

You’ll have your sutures removed after 10 to 14 days, and some additional healing will take place for another 6 to 8 weeks. There is minimal downtime directly after the surgery. You’ll likely be able to return to work and your other usual activities within just a day or two.
